Antique Etruscan Majolica Shell and Seaweed Plate by Griffin Smith & Hill – 8 Inches
A beautiful example of 19th-century American Victorian art pottery. This antique Etruscan Majolica plate dates to the 1880s and features the celebrated Shell and Seaweed pattern by Griffin Smith & Hill.
Six molded scallop shell motifs radiate from the center amid branching textured seaweed. Soft pink and turquoise green glazes mingle with cream and beige to highlight the sculptural details and lend the plate a delicate coastal charm.
A lovely addition to a majolica collection or an elegant accent for a plate wall. Displayed upright on a shelf or in a cabinet its dimensional pattern and luminous glazes can be fully appreciated.
The underside bears the impressed circular Etruscan Majolica stamp with the G. S. H. monogram.
